MERENGUE AND TIPICO

Merengue is the oldest dance in Dominican Republic. During the centuries it has been evolving all the time. The slow Merengue familiar to us is now mostly replaced by the fast tempo Tipico. Basically they are the same dance, but Tipico is more enjoyable and more relaxing for longer dance sessions.

DANCING BACHATA IN DOMINICAN REPUBLIC AND ELSEWHERE
The Dominican people dance very close, softly and they do very little turn patterns. When you see it, you will definitely say "beautifull, interesting, sensual, romantic, sexy and if only I could do the same". The Dominicans do have also Clubs with outstanding special Bachata skills. There you will see turn patterns, but mostly skillfull use of hips, hands, stops and special steps. If only all the dance schools in the world would teach only the real Dominican Bachata. Unfortunately that will not happen, because the most advanced dance teachers have and will add Hammerlock and the 1000 other turn patterns into Bachata, like they have done for Salsa and all the other dances. We call it "Dance School Bachata" and it will be variated into Italian style and later on into the styles of each city. We cannot stop the evolution and as long as the Bachata dancers have eye contact, music interpretation, romantic feeling and fun it's OK. For you it is important to understand what is the Dominican style and which incredients make it Dance School Bachata.
LAVABACHATA (=BACHATA IN TRADIOTIONAL FINNISH DANCE PLACES)

First vision: The Finnish social dancers hear easily the Latin music rhytms (Bachata, Salsa) and they can enjoy on dancing it with their own steps. Especially the slow ones will work fine.
Second vision: The Bachata basic steps can be used in dancing some of the Finnish dances and especially if you can hear the one-two-three-tap rhytm. You can select either being in the center of the dance floor dancing Bachata style or you can go around the dance floor (like the others) using the Finnish dance style but Bachata steps.
It really works and you'll notice that the Finnish social dancers know better than Salsa dancers the concept of dancing close.
